King Tutankhamun Royal Treasures Return to England
Archived- Sorry, King Tut has
Moved On from London
After
35 years away on his round the world tour and following his second
round of tour stops in the U.S., Egypt’s most famous mummy King
along with his golden treasures made his triumphant return to
England for the opening of London’s new exhibit hall “The
O2 Bubble” November 15, 2007. Since the discovery of his tomb
in 1922 by British antiquities explorer Howard
Carter,
the 3,000
year old “boy king” has spawned movies and tantalizing
rumors of a mummy curse and not to mention a hit pop song by comedian
Steve
Martin – King Tut has been causing a sensation wherever he
travels with a magnificent collection of Egyptian royal and cultural
artifacts.
You won't see the king's newly revealed mummy here, but the exhibition presents fifty major artifacts excavated from Tutankhamun's tomb in the Valley of the Kings, including his golden crown (royal diadem) and one of the gold and gem encrusted coffins which held his mummified internal organs, "King Tut's Guts", if you will. Along with 70 objects from other Pharaohs' royal graves. The exhibition has a special hall dedicated to Howard Carter, Britain’s home boy discoverer, returning home since the last London visit in 1972. This will be Tutankhamun’s last trip to Britain as he plans to settle into permanent accomodation at the new national treasure museum in Egypt after this latest tour.
King Tut Closed his London Coffin on August 14, 2008.
