OLD TRAFFORD EXPERIENCE
Manchester United Football Museum and Tour
In this new international world we all are learning cross-cultural experiences. Since David Beckham came to Los Angeles, yanks are paying more attention to soccer as a sport. While in return, even though he hasn’t actually played that much, David Beckham has been learning to refer to the game he plays as “soccer” rather than “football”. So, although the American padded game of the same common name has invaded Europe, war is not likely to break out. Beckham’s rise to fame began with one of the best known British football teams Manchester United.
The Old Trafford Experience at Manchester United’s football stadium is an entertaining look into the back stage of one of the best known sports teams. The attraction for football fans from England is obvious, but a tourist trip to the north of England’s largest city for anyone remotely interested in sport is worth a visit to the famous club’s stadium offering a museum of team history and memorabilia, as well as a stadium tour. The Manchester United Stadium is located near the Manchester Quays, an inland waterway of docks, condominium residences, entertainment venues and the massive Lowry Outlet shopping mall. The Manchester United Museum covers about three floors underneath the stadium stands, chock full of glittering gold and silver trophies of the club’s sports glory dating back to 1908, along with uniforms, photographs and other history. The Legends Hall celebrates the famous past players of Manchester United. An interactive experience allows visitors a chance to test their kicking ability with Speed Ball, where you score a virtual goal, testing your ball velocity and measure your skill against the greats. The Stadium Tour is a guided visit to the under-stadium areas to the grand stands. Sit in a bird’s eye view from the top of North Stand or pace in the dug out pit viewpoint of team head Sir Alex Ferguson. Learn about the team’s eating habits and training rituals, then from the home team locker room, walk through the tunnel out onto the field as the massive stadium surrounds you, imagining the roar of cheers. After the tour you can get a snack in the Red Café where team player interviews and historic moments play on tv screens.
Of
course you can buy team logo merchandise from the giant megastore located
on the ground level on
the opposite
side of the stadium from
the museum, an emporium of all things Manchester United. An adult ticket
for the museum is £6 and with a tour £9.50. Kids over 5 years
are £4.25 and £6.50. Family tickets are also available. Parking
is free in the stadium north stand lot and pre-booking of tours is recommended.
The stadium can also be reached by Metrolink to Old Trafford Station.
The Old Trafford Experience can form the ideal family compromise, dad
and the kids get to check out locker rooms where sweaty uniforms are
doffed and mom gets to go shopping for outlet bargains at the Quays Lowry
Mall. Peace in our time. © Bargain
