SHERLOCK HOLMES HOTEL LONDON
What if Holmes Retired to Run a Hotel on Baker Street?
There’s no evidence in the books and stories of Arthur Conan Doyle that his eponymous character Sherlock Holmes hung out in the bar lounge sipping a martini while the tourist life of London passed by outside in the London mist on Baker Street. Indeed, the famous fictional detective’s predilections tended toward a different sort of mood altering concoction and the solitary gloom of the rooms of 221b. Doyle retired his character more than once, and one wonders what a famous detective does after retirement. Why, it’s elementary, my dear fellow - open a bar, of course! For the modern day explorer of the mysteries of London Town, a relaxing drink in the lounge of the Sherlock Holmes Hotel on Baker Street, the company of Mr. Holmes can be kept from his ever observant spot behind the cocktail bar. Holmes was known for using disguises and who’s to say he hasn’t disguised himself as, well…himself, in bust form.
The Sherlock Holmes Hotel in London is comprised of 18th Century London townhouses converted to a rather quietly elegant hotel of 119 rooms. The hotel has been recently refurbished to a clean lined contemporary style with redesigned bedrooms and suites. The bathrooms all have distinctive frosted glass doors. The hotel is air conditioned with fitness center gym, sauna and steam room. Luxurious larger split-level loft suites are featured at the Sherlock Holmes, with upstairs bedrooms overlooking the living area with sofas and soft lighting.
Downstairs
in the lobby is Sherlock's Bar & Grill, serving European
and Mediterranean cuisine with an emphasis on mesquite charcoal grilled
and a mesquite wood dishes. All observed by the ever watchful consulting
detective in his Deerstalker. The hotel offers a luxury feel at a mid-price
for London lodgings. The
Park Plaza Sherlock Holmes Hotel is located just a block and a half from
the decidedly touristy
Sherlock Homes Museum at 221b Baker Street
(see Sherlock
Holmes Museum London) and from Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum
where the London double-decker tour busses stop (see London
Sight-seeing Bus Tours). The Sherlock Holmes
Hotel is within walking distance from Oxford Street and Bond Street.
The Baker Street Terminal is the way to Wembley Stadium. Baker Street
is a few tube stops from the Eurostar International Terminal at St.
Pancras/Kings
Cross or
bus ride down Marlebone and Euston Rd. (see Eurostar
St Pancras London-Paris), and the Heathrow Express into
Paddington is a few tube stops the other way, so the Sherlock Holmes
Hotel can be a midpoint
option for air to London
and rail to Paris. © Bargain
