INNSBRUCK GOLDENER ADLER
Best Western Historic Romantic Hotel in the Altstadt
Innsbruck
in the Austrian Tyrol, called the capital of the Alps and the Olympic
city, has been
a stopping point for travelers through the
Alps for centuries. Set in a beautiful valley along one of the oldest
trading routes across the mountains, the city has attracted kings and
emperors, artists and writers, and modern day summer hikers and winter
skiers. The old town (Altstadt) with its ancient shops, beautiful tyrolean
alpine medieval architecture adorned with flower-boxed windows has been
the heart of the city since the days of the Habsburg rulers and the Goldener
Adler (Golden Eagle)
Hotel and Restaurant located in the center of the
old town pedestrian zone has been hosting visitors to Innsbruck since
1390. A marble slab at the entrance is etched with the names of the many
famous guests who have crossed the threshold just steps away from Innsbruck’s
symbolic Golden Roof for a meal in the dining rooms, or to stay in the
inn. Mozart, Goethe, the Austrian Emperor Josef II, and Austrian freedom
fighter hero Andreas Hofer who roused the public to repel the Bavarians
from the hotel’s first floor window in 1609, to mention a few.
The Goldener
Adler Inn of Innsbruck has had many operators over its 600 year history
and
is currently part of the Best Western group of independently
owned hotels. The Hackl family are the present hosts with their own long
local history, maintaining the tradition of Innsbruck’s most venerable
historic inn. The rooms and suites of the hotel are spread over four
floors, updated with modern comforts, but retaining the alpine old world
style comforts. Innsbruck’s old town is five blocks from the main
rail station with the Goldener Adler hotel within a ten minute walk.
If driving, parking is provided at the Altstadt lot at a reduced rate.
Most of Innsbruck’s sights are within walking distance. The Hofburg
Palace and Hofkirch with its fascinating bronze kings and queens (see Innsbruck Hofkirch) and St Jakob’s Cathedral are just steps away.
The brand new funicular railway across the cold blue green waters of
the Sill river up to the Alpen Zoo and cable car to mountain skiing is
two bus stops. When the weather is pleasant the Goldener Adler’s
restaurant terrace offers ample opportunity for people watching within
view of Innsbruck's Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl), while the Goethe Stube
or Batzenhäusl restaurants within the stone gothic arched cellars
offers cozy romantic nooks for escaping winter chills with the extensive
wine list. © Bargain
