2009 D-DAY ANNIVERSARY COMEMMORATION DEAL
Galeries Lafayette Exclusive Pin Badge and Discount
Galeries Lafayette We Are Here! Okay, a slight variation on the battle cry echoing America’s returning the favor of the assistance of the French General in the revolution with the Yanks landing on French soil to liberate them from Nazi occupation. It was a gloomy morning of June 6, 1944 when the American 1st Army under General Omar Bradley landed on Utah and Omaha beaches on the Normandy Coast and the 2nd Army, 30 and 1st Corps of United Kingdom and Canadian forces came ashore on the beaches code named Gold, Juno and Sword in the D-Day Invasion of occupied France, beginning the last offensives of WWII. 2009 marks the 65th Anniversary of the Normandy Landings. The invasion, officially known as “Operation Overlord”, had been long in planning and worked partly because Patton had kept the German high command focused on a feigned assault on Calais with inflatable fake tanks as a decoy. The assault on the beaches was the largest invasion ever attempted and cost countless lives, with the story told in movies from “The Longest Day” to “Saving Private Ryan”.
Among the many commemorative events celebrating the sacrifices and successes of the allied effort in June, including a planned visit by President Obama and Michelle, the famous department store of France, the Galleries Lafayette is offering a special exclusive thank you offer for Americans, Brits and Canadians. Print out a special voucher here, (or pick one up in the store with a map of the beaches) and take it in to the Galeries Lafayette stores in Paris, the main one at Boulevard Haussman, or the stores in Caen and Rouen and receive a special 10% discount on merchandise as well as a gift store logo shopping bag and a special exclusive commemorative pin badge featuring the flags of the U.S, UK, Canada and France. The offer is good until June 10, 2009. Take the voucher to the welcome desk in the main store or customer service in the other two stores and show your American, Canadian or UK passport. There’s a minimum purchase of 50€. Along with the voucher is a map of the Normandy landing beaches so you can show off your “we are here” pin proudly, along with a new designer scarf from the Galeries. Even if Queen Elizabeth doesn't make it, get yours! © Bargain Travel Europe
