BERLIN
AQUADOM & SEA
LIFE EXHIBITION
Drink Like a Fish or Explore the Oceans in Berlin
*Update - The Aquarium Tank at the Radisson Blu recently broke and cascaded a massive flood, so not a feature anymore.
Okay, so you've seen the Berliner Dom Cathedral and rode to the top of the TV Tower. You stop in a hotel bar for a couple of Vodka Martinis and when you’re feeling just a bit woozy, you look up and imagine a shark swimming over your head. “Man, I gotta lay off the olives” you swear to yourself. But no, you’re not imagining it. Located in the vast atrium lobby of the SAS Radisson Blu Hotel in the heart of Berlin, the Aquadom is a giant aquarium 25 meters high, not a dome but a mesmerizing massive tube of water rising up into the atrium above the hotel bar, filled with a million liters of sea water where tropical fish, shimmer as they dart in swarms of color in this indoor sea.
For the price of a dish of bar snacks you can just sit with your drink and marvel at the mechanics of maintaining a giant aquarium in a hotel lobby, holding back the flood. Or should a more involving sea adventure beckon, you can delve further into the depths in the AquaDom and Sea Life exhibition. The entrance is outside the SAS Radisson next to the River Spree and the DDR Museum (see East German Life DDR Museum) and just across from the Dom (see Berliner Dom Cathedral). The Sea Life Tour leads through 30 different exhibits of sea life habitats of the Wannsee, the Havel and Elbe Rivers and harbor of Hamburg (see Hamburg Harbor Tours), to the North Sea and deep Atlantic Ocean. Over 4,000 sea creatures are represented, from the miniature mussels and bottom scuttlers up to sleek sharks, living in the giant aquarium. From the underground SEA LIFE exhibits a glass elevator rises through the center of the one-of-a-kind unique Aquadom glass tank, a voyage rather like a rising scuba diver. A new special exhibit called Neptune's Mirror-Labyrinth in the new special exhibition presents an unbelievable optical illusion effect surrounding the visitor with fish to infinity, surrounded on all sides by the colorful inhabitants of the ocean depths, an optical illusion for the bewilderment of the senses.
The AquaDom & SEA LIFE Berlin exhibit is open every day from 10 am (except Christmas Eve). Tickets for adults are €16.95, children €11.50 and seniors/students €15.95. Discounts are available with a Smartsave Card from Berlin Tourism. Drinks at the bar not included. © Bargain Travel Europe
