DUBLIN AIRPORT HOTEL
Express By Holiday Inn Dublin Airport
I don’t often report on airport hotels. One stays because it’s convenient and the location and availability are good, but I’ll make an exception for the Holiday Inn Express at Dublin International Airport. I'd spent a week wandering around Ireland and over to England, but had to head back home via Dublin, so needed a convenient stop at an airport hotel within easy reach of the city center. Most all hotels at Dublin’s airport are located a coach ride away. The Express by Holiday Inn, about 2 miles, shares a courtesy coach and a location with the Crowne Plaza Dublin Northwood Park (see Park, Stay and Go Package), the more upper range hotel property of the same company making for the best of both worlds. These airport hotels are situated in a park setting across from a stream and pond of paddling ducks and swans, making for a surprisingly relaxing country feeling setting for a mid-urban hotel. One of the advantages of this arrangements is that you can stay in a budget room at the Holiday Inn Express with all the expectations of a basic quality modern hotel – good room size and decor, tea and coffee, work desk, satellite TV and buffet continental breakfast included - but the added benefit of enjoying the amenities of the more upscale big brother next door with two restaurants and bustling bar and conference center. The Holiday Inn Express Dublin Airport is ideal for the business or leisure traveler and has its own small licensed bar and lounge, but a short walk from the hotel’s front door, the Little Venice Restaurant is a pleasant local family run Italian place for parmesan and a pint, and a variety of pubs and restaurants are about a bus stop away.
Getting into Dublin city center for sight seeing is an easy trip on the city bus line which stops on the main Santry R123 route. The 15-20 minute city bus ride into the heart of Dublin costs about 1.60 Euro. Across the park river stream is the Morton Stadium athletic field where one might catch a local game and Croke Park Stadium is about 10 minutes away for a major match or a concert. Malahide seaside resort town is about a 30 minute bus ride (see Malahide Castle). With a rental car the hotel is 7 minutes from the airport and easy access to the M50 motorway. The connected parking structure is a budget friendly €6 a day for park and fly getaways. The courtesy coach shuttle 5 min ride to the airport runs every half hour in the mornings and evenings and hour intervals in the mid-day. © Bargain Travel Europe
