REDISCOVER
MADIERA ISLAND
New Packages from Azores Express
In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue, eventually bumping into America.
He departed from Spain but made his journey after a stop for refit of
his ships and a crew from the Portuguese island of Madeira in the Atlantic
Ocean,. The famous explorer had lived on the islands and married the
daughter of its governor. Already 750 miles from Lisbon, he figured the
world was round if he just kept going west. George Washington was an
admirer of Madeira wine, with both his inauguration and the signing of
the Declaration of Independence toasted with it, and the frigate Constitution
still in Boston Harbor was christened with Madeira wine. In the 19th
Century. America rather rediscovered Madiera as a tourist destination.
A semi-tropical island of excellent year round mild climate, far from
the madding crowd with comparisons to Hawaii and an alternative to the
Caribbean, with a European flavor.

Madeira’s fascinating landscape is characterized by volcanic cliffs that rise dramatically from the sea. The islands steep rise creates six unique climate zones, each with its own beautiful flora and fauna. Visitors come to Madiera for the natural beauty, golf, mountain hiking, deep sea fishing, diving, and old world charm of its seaside towns. Madeira remains an uncrowded and sophisticated pearl of European charm.
