MALBUN – LIECHTENSTEIN‘S HOLIDAY RESORT
Winter and Summer Family Friendly
Malbun is the principal holiday resort in the Principality of Liechtenstein, tucked between the eastern edge of Switzerland and the Austrian Tyrol. This little village is an ideal spot for families in both summer or winter. Reached at the end of a winding road into the hills from the capital of Vaduz, the steep slopes at the end of the Malbun Valley surround the little resort of Malbun like an arena. The small scale of this little mountain village make Malbun a particularly family-friendly and less familiar resort.
Winter in Malbun
In the tales of earlier times, the valley of Malbun belonged to the mountain ghosts in winter, to be avoided. But today, the ghosts of medieval superstition have been excorcised, and Malbun has become a popular, snow-safe and family-friendly winter sports centre. With two chair-lifts, four T-bars and a drag lift, there is access to 21 kilometers of easy slopes rising up to 2000 meters. A fun park keeps snowboarders occupied and the winter sports school gets beginners up too speed. The reputation of Mulbun as a family ski resort is partly to the fact that because of the bowl shape, all runs essentially return to the same local, making it easier to keep track of wayard youth..
For the 14 kilometers of prepared winter footpaths lead from Malbun to the Sassfürkle. Sledders will love the run down from the Windegga to Malbun or on the floodlit 1000 m long natural sledging run down from Alp Stücka to Steg. From the Maiensäss Steg below Malbun there are 15 kilometers of cross-country ski trails leading into the picturesque Valüna Valley with 3 kilometres of the trail illuminated at night.
Summer in Malbun
In summer, ride the gondola lift to the top of the ridge and look into Austria, or hike the many trails. The Malbun Sommerchilbi held in July is a large summer fair with a host of activities, children’s entertainment and regional culinary specialities. In August the Malbun Donkey Festival features the pack animal and its legenday obstinate nature. The Sareiser Joch mountain restaurant poffers panoramic views over the “little principality” and the Rhine valley, with a Pet Donkey Zoo for children.
