BLACK FOREST JUMP DINING
Gourmet Meal Sampling in Sasbachwalden
Four Courses - Four Restaurants
It’s called Dinner Jumping and no, it is neither a German form of “dine and dash” nor an eating activity associated with sky diving. Nestled in the beautiful southwest region of Germany known as the Black Forest, the village of Sasbachwalden with its gingerbread architecture adorned with the color of summer flowers in the midst of the “Alde Gott” wine vineyards, fruit trees and family Schnapps tasting farms, fairly defines this wonderful part of the country, situated between the Baden Wine Route and the Black Forest Road.
Dinner Jumping is a one price adventure in local cuisine dining, with stops at four restaurants in Sasbachwalden, serving a four course meal. Sasbachwalden has been called “Germany’s Gourmet Corner”, with nearly forty restaurants tucked around the village and in the glens straddling the Black Forest Road, though five restaurants participate in the program. The restaurants range from Michelin Star fine-dining to home atmosphere family wine taverns. Discover the traditional regional Flammenkuchen, baked over open hearth flames and Black Forest Cake, sample regional wines, walking from one course of the meal to the next. Over the four courses, you don’t order from a menu, but have a choice of meat, fish or a vegetarian option. A glass of wine or mineral water is included with the each of the first three courses. Other drinks are extra. If you only have a short time in the Black Forest, the Dinner Jumping of Sasbachwalden makes for a fabulous foodie experience.
How Dinner Jumping in Black Forest Sasbachwalden works. The program is booked through the local tourist office. Book at least two weeks in advance. The price is €65 per person. A variety of restaurants participate and the venues chosen will be based on your choice or if fully booked, an alternate choice. Once you pre-pay, you pick up the dining voucher from the tourist office (or my mail) and make your way to your jump dining restaurant choices. They are all pretty much within walking distance, so if you sample too much Alta Gotte wine or fruit schnapps, you needn’t drive. Providing your hotel is also in Sasbachwalden.
