PFÄNDER MOUNTAIN CABLE CAR - BREGENZ
Lake Constance Views and Eagles
The Pfänder is not a particular high mountain as Alpine cable cars go, but the views of the landscape around Lake Constance (the Bodensee) where the Rhine River flows into the lake surrounded by three countries, Austria, Germany and Switzerland is a beautiful sight indeed. When visibility is good, the vista stretches from the peaks of the Arlberg Alps to the Black Forest and hills of German Swabian hills. With the cable car station rising from the heart of the town of Bregenz in the spit of Austria which separates Germany from Switzerland, this cable car is easy to reach. The lower station of the cable-car is about a 5 minute walk from the city harbor and 15 minutes walk from the Bregenz Rail station.
At the top of the Pfänder is a green forested land for hiking and biking in the summer months and skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing in the winter, and can offer an escape to the sun when fog shrouds the lakeside valleys. The mountain trails are particular attractive in summer for mountain biking with a variety of trails from easy to challenging. A look down from the cable car on ts way up the mountain offers a birdseye look at some of Bregenz‘ most expensive real estate with examples of the designer architecture houses for with the region is so noted, it has its own exhibit at the art museum.
Restaurants
Three restaurants are available at the top of the mountain. The Berghaus Pfander Restaurant is located at the top cable station, with an interior restaurant and terrace deck table view of the „three country overlook“ (Dreiländerblick). The restaurant is self serve and offers a menu of Austrian and internationals favorites. The Gasthaus Pfänderdohle is a ten minute walk from the Pfänder cable station. Built in 1911, this classic alpine style restaurant offers mountain ambiance with home-style cooking and its specialty of home-made strudels. The Pfänderspitze is a cozy liitle alpine hut located next to the TV tower at the mounatin summit, a five minute uphill hike from the cable station, with view terrace and traditional Austiran meals ot just a cub of mulled wine to enjoy the views of the lake shores/
Eagle Observatory Show – Birds of Prey
