FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT ON THE COTE d'AZURE
Kids on the Riviera - Dolphins and Dauphins
Parlez
vous Delphine? Do Dolphins speak French? So, you’re going to
the French Riviera with the family. But not sure what there is to
do with
the kids if you don’t want tender young minds exposed on the topless
beaches of St. Tropez? Or they’ve already ‘seen one bare
breast seen ‘em all’ and are totally bored with the sea
and old musty art museums. Easily accessible by train in Antibes, France’s
Marineland lies halfway between Nice and Cannes. The “Meeting
the Dolphins”
show has been running fpr the past 6 years for up close and personal
encounters with the bottle-nosed sea creatures. The Great Adventure of
Pirates
and
Killer-Whales is a 30 foot deep picture window pool where the Orca whales
cavort with their trainers underneathy an above water pirate show. Like
all good aquatic amusement parks there is the shark tube, Piranha exhibit,
miniature golf with a Jules Verne adventure theme, aquariums, a Wild
West
theme park with train rides and gun-slinger shows, and the Aquasplash
artificial wave and wild water slides swimming park, when the calm Mediterranian
just isn’t enough.
If walking-the-plank
over killer whales isn’t enough of pirates on the Mediterranian,
the Azure
Adventure Labyrinthe is a pirate themed playland for kids,
located in Villeneuve-Loubet,
4 miles from the Nice Cote d’Azure airport (See Three
Hotel Bargains In Nice).
A maze with a series of games designed to explore the history and themes
of pirates and corsairs, divided into three levels of play activities
for different age groups. France's Marineland was recently featured in the film "Rust and Bone".
And
half-way between Cannes and St. Tropez, the Zoological Park at
Frejus Ville near St. Rafael
is a zoo and animal preserve dedicated to wildlife
preservation which can be visited on foot like a traditional zoo or driven
through in the car. The
Labyrinthe and Zoo Parc close at sundown, but the Marineland of the Azure
Coast offers special evening shows. Marineland is closed for
the month of March and its water slide park is only open from June to
September. The Labyrinthe operates from mid-April to mid-November and
the animal park has varying opening times year-round except December. © Bargain
