FAMILY FUN PARK AND CHAMPAGNE
Nigloland Theme Park, Aube
What
do you do when hedgehogs are nosing in your wine grape vineyards? You
build them an amusement park! Niglo is the
French word for Hedgehog
(spiny-fur bug-eating animals indigineous to Europe, much more cuddly
than its
distant North American cousin the porcupine) and Nigloland is the third
largest family theme amusement park in France. Located in the Aube
region
of Champagne in central France to the east of Paris.
Built
in the 1980s from the idea of a traveling family of showmen the Nigloland
Fun Park has grown over time with the additions of more and more attractions
and rides and become very popular for family travel vacations in France.
Set in the lush wine
growing region of Aube near the town of Dolancourt in the Orient Forest
between Troyes and Dijon among the rolling hills of flowers and woodlands
between the hillside vineyards, it is well suited for combining France
wine road touring and family activities.
Bobsled and Space Theme rides, a Pirate Ship, Mine Train, Haunted House and Museum of Horrors for older kinds and flying dragons for younger children, a Canadian river water action ride and more sedate enchanted river with birds and exotic flowers, adventure jungle and fantasy ride are some of the attractions. There is even a place for the actual live hedghogs who represent the park’s furry cartoon mascot.
The
family amusement park is open from April 1st thru September. It is
about
two hours drive from Paris and 45 kilometers (25 miles) south from Troyes.
The park has its own pirate theme hotel and restaurant, the Hotel des
Pirates decorated in the theme of pirate shipwrecks with 30 rooms,
and
the Bar des Caraïbes restaurant and lounge in the style of a galleon.

The Val des Vignes Family Cottage Log Cabins
For
a longer stay in the area for a family vacation, wine tasting or Renoir
country exploring (the famous artist was a regular visitor of the area),
rent
a log cabin for a week that sleeps 4 to 5. On the grounds near the family
home La Bergerie overlooking the Ource valley in Essoyes, the Val des
Vignes (Valley of Vines) is a working vineyard and farm among woods
and meadows. The owners will let the kids tend the sheep, chickens and
ducks and even give mom and dad lessons in log cabin building. You can
join in grape picking in season if you want to do more with your hands
than just tipping a wine flute.
Within easy reach for exploring is Troyes, the Cotes de Bars, the Renior paths, the Abbey Fontenay, Chateau Bussy-Rabutin, and Chatillon-sur-Seine and more family entertainment at Provins.© Bargain Travel Europe
