Ski Jumping Tower in the Alps
An unforgettable winter ski experience a trip to the Heini-Klopfer Ski Flying Tower in the Alpine colonial village of Oberstdrof in Germany’s Allgau Alps region. The ski jump track is 139 meters long to the jump ramp, launching at 106 km per hour, landing at 130 km an hour. From the highest launch point to the last landing is 207 meters of height distance with the tower rising up to 72 meters over the snowy hard ground below. Modern and elegant, the new design tower at Oberstdorf is of a compressed concrete construction with a flying track raked at 39 degrees. The waiting platform can hold 100 ski-jumpers at one time. Reached by a slanted elevator system carrying twelve skiers to the heated tower with waxing areas, bathrooms and a concierge kiosk.. 220 skiers can be carried to the top of the tower in an hour.
The tower at Oberstdorf hosted the Ski Flying World Cup, with the world's best ski jumpers making a try setting new world’s record. But the rest of the year, the world’s newest and most unique ski flying tower is open to amateurs as well as champions brave enough to fly from the 75 meters ramp into the alpine air.
Oberstdorf in Allgau is southwest of Munich on the Austrian border is also home to the Fellhornbahn and the Nebelhornbahn, two of the highest cable car rides in the German Alps for winter and summer over some of the most magnificent Alpine views and the National Figure Skating training center.
