WALLISERHOF CHALET HOTEL ZERMATT
Snuggle Under the Matterhorn
Zermatt,
Switzerland is where they keep the Matterhorn. For the spectacular
skiing on a glacier or
down
the
black
diamond runs
of Gornergrat or the Klein Matterhorn, helicopter skiing tours,
a healing visit to the popular health and living thermal baths, hiking
the spectacular Alps in summer, or just to see this totally unique one-of-a-kind
corner of the world (see Zermatt's
Matterhorn). The
Zermatt aerial tram up the slopes of the
world’s most famous mountain
peak is the
longest
and highest cable car ride on the planet with breathtaking views of the
high
snow-capped Alps. Not as familiar as its jet-setter
cousin St. Moritz, a stop here is mandatory for anyone who wants
a lifetime memory or a
one-of-a-kind
romantic
getaway
from the “real world” in this Switzerland fantasy land. Snow
crunching under your feet down the central lane of the village where
tradition has remained
for the princes of Europe and casual ski
bums who have known this secret place. Slipping into a hot bubbling tub
with a glass of champagne with the steam condensing in the crisp alpine
air under 16,000 foot peaks, Zermatt is truly one of the most romantic
and magical places in the world for honeymoon, anniversary, or just a
getaway.
There
are many hotels and chalets in Zermatt to choose. The Monte Rosa
was one of the first
hotels which welcomed visitors
who came for the mountain sports with its bar where many a mountaineer
has tipped a drink since the 1920’s the night before scaling the
peak. The Zermatterhof is one
of the grandest of the jet setter landmarks, with a price to match. For
excellent
value and style, The Hotel Walliserhof is a four star
chalet style family-owned hotel offering a perfect balance of affordable
first
class jet-set style. Off-Season prices are a little bit softer on the
wallet.
An
easy walk from the train station or the Walliserhof will pick you
up with your luggage from
the train station for the short ride to the
doorstep in an electric cart (or horse drawn sleigh! in winter). Located
in the center of the alpine village, the Walliser Hof is one of the
most
convenient
to
both the
train
station
and the
stations
house of the aerial tram a five minute walk. Next door to the Thermal
Baths of Burgerbad with its Rheumtism and Health rehabilitation clinic,
the Wallishof also has its own sauna and baths, paying special attention
to cater to couples here for a honeymoon, anniversary or just a romantic
getaway. They also offer a package which includes the thermal health
spa.
Many of the rooms have balconies ot a roof terrece which look out on the mountains, or stay inside the wood beamed Swiss chalet interior as a warm sanctuary. The restaurants, shops and bars of the main village are just outside the door or venture no farther than this four star hotel’s intimate candlelit "Stübli", elegant grill room restaurant or terrace.
The
best way to reach Zermatt (in southern Switzerland) is by train from
Milan Italy via Trentalia
(Italian National Railway) to Brig or from Geneva or
Zurich (via Lucerne) on Swiss Rail (see Glacier
Express). You can
drive,
but cars are not allowed
in Zermatt and have to park in
Tasche or Visp
and
the
winter
roads
in the Alps can be an adventure all their own. © Bargain
