THE SHERLOCK HOLMES PUB RESTAURANT - LONDON
"Watson! The Brew is afoot!"

Sherlock Holmes Pub LondonSherlock Holmes is a name so closely associated with London that fans seeking a fix, hopefully not the 7 Percent Solution kind but of the amber liquid that comes in a pint might look for a watering hole. Fans of the literary mystery character must not miss throwing back an ale at The Sherlock Holmes Restaurant & Pub in the Westminster district of London. Soak in a bit of Sherlockiana, have a meal with Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous detective, or at least his many guises which adorn the walls, get a table at this long time London landmark. A few blocks from Trafalgar Square on Northumberland Street (see also Tattershall Castle Steamer Pub) around the corner from Charing Cross Station and across the street from the Old Scotland Yard. Try out a Sherlock Holmes House Ale.

Baker Street Study Sherlock Holmes PubThe Sherlock Holmes Pub has been around since 1957 and boasts a re-creation of the Holmes and Watson's Baker Street rooms study upstairs next to the dining rooms. The inn which used to be known as the Northumberland Arms was rechristened The Sherlock Holmes Pub, with the support of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s family. The pub was filled with various artifacts and items such as Dr. Watson’s old service revolver, original cartoons and the stuffed and mounted head of the Hound of the Baskervilles. The Holmes study recreation is on view beyond a glass wall from the restaurant and the roof garden. The display was acquired from an exhibition assembled for the 1951 Festival of Britain. Two other versions of the rooms of Holmes and Watson can be found at the Holmes Museum on Baker Street (see Sherlock Holmes London Museum) and in Switzerland near Interlaken at the Reichenbach Falls (see Sherlock Holmes Museum Meiringen) where Conan Doyle got the idea to try to end his character's career. Holmes was of course a fictional character and only ever visited London pubs in disguise (see Sherlock Holmes Hotel), yet locals gather at happy hour on the street outside to bend an elbow and jaw about the latest mystery of the day’s daily news. But with London’s notorious weather don’t forget your deerstalker cap and your Brolly.
