FAVORITE CASTLES OF GERMANY
Book of Castle History and Travel
My quest for castles in Europe began in Germany. I was in the country working on a movie project and knew they must have castles, so went on an exploration trip to the romantic Middle-Rhine where I had seen image of castles clinging to the vineyard covered hillsides of the river where legends of the song of the Loreley would draw sailors to their doom on the shoals of the mighty rock. The first castle I visited was Rheinstein. I’ve been adding to my bucket list ever since over multiple trips to various corners of the country, learning the complex history of this beautiful country where so much of our legends and heritage derives. Here are nineteen of my favorite Germany castles in 100 pages with color photography and the stories of rich history, design and significance of castles in Germany. Some of the castles featured range from the famous Neuschwanstein and Heidelberg castles, Burg Eltz and Hohenzollen, the story of the two Frankensteins, castle hotels like Hornburg on the Neckar River and Auf Schönburg on the Rhine River, the mummies of Sommersdorf Castle, and Martin Luther’s duel with the devil at Castle Wartburg.
