LIVERPOOL
BEATLES TOUR BY RAIL
Day Tripper from London to the Beatles’ Liverpool
OMG
Paul’s
phones have been tapped! What Paul? Sir Paul. Aside from a pope, there’s
pretty much only one who comes to mind. Of course it’s the “cute” Beatle,
Paul McCartney. The Beatles have been at the core of music and culture
since they burst
on the rock scene in 1960. From first appearances at an underground
club bar in Liverpool to record breaking appearances on Ed Sullivan,
innovative movies and a journey through the psychedelic 60s.
So, you’re a Beatles fan. You grew up with the music in your
head. Had a poster of Paul or John, or even Ringo for some reason on
your wall, a trip to Liverpool is a must checkmark on your trip to
England. But you’re going to London. How to get to Liverpool?
And where do you go to discover all the sites of Penny Lane, Strawberry
Field and the Cavern Club? Take a day
tour from London.
On
the Beatles and Liverpool Tour, offered for yanks and other non-Brits
through Rail Europe, after a two hour train trip you take a self-guided
exploration of Liverpool’s Matthew Street to discover the birthplace
of the Fab Four. Take in the Matthew Street Gallery which showcases
the most iconic images of the Beatles band
or visit the
Beatles Shop for Beatles memorabilia mania. Take your photo
with
John Lennon’s statue, still leaning laconically against the
wall as if waiting for Paul, George and Ringo to show up for a gig
at the
Cavern Club. Have a pint at the the Cavern Pub (the tribute bar)
or go down into the Cavern Club where it all started (yes, the actual
original Cavern Club was demolished, but has been recreated in the
basement next door).
Relive
the
history of the world’s most famous band at the Beatles Story
at Albert Dock, from their early days in the clubs of the Hamburg
Reeperbahn,
sessions in recreated recording studios, through their later solo
careers
after the big breakup. Then join a guided tour on a 1960s period
motor coach where an expert in all things Beatles tells of the
secrets of
The Magical Mystery Tour. The tour winds through the back streets
of Liverpool to the houses where the boys grew up, Paul McCartney’s
art school, the bus bench which inspired Eleanor Rigby (she’s
still sitting there). The tour visits 30 locations associated with
the Beatles life in Liverpool or which featured in their music.
After the tour, it’s back to London by rail. This day tripper
comes with a return ticket.
The
tour runs Monday to Friday and includes round trip rail travel from London
to Liverpool, entrance to the Beatles Story exhibit
at Albert Dock and the Magical Mystery Tour. The tour comes with
First
Class or Second Class rail price options. First Class includes
breakfast on the way up and dinner on the way back as the English
countryside
passes by the window. The Tour begins in the wee hours of 6:30am
at Euston Street station where you catch a 7:13am train to Liverpool.
Spend the day with free time for sight-seeing and shopping (all
those Beatles souvenirs) and catch the return train from Liverpool
station
at 6:15 pm and get back to London at 8:48 pm. If you absolutely
have to get your
picture taken on THE crosswalk at Abbey Road, well, you’ll
just have to find that in London on your own. © Bargain
